Black Box – The original
-
Blue Box – Squawk Box (in production)
The gameplay and rules are the same for both, but the Squawk Box will feature more cards and a lower age rating for the optional audience. Each edition contains unique player and dealer cards, so owning one or both ensures the games will always feel fresh and different!

Age Ratings for Compound Chicken
Here’s the scoop on suggested age ratings for each version:
-
Black Box: This edition is geared toward older audiences, but don’t worry – you can easily pull out the more “grown-up” cards to make it an all-ages game. Think of it like de-clucking the spicy bits for family game night.
-
Squawk Box: This version skips the dirt altogether, making it more family-friendly right out of the gate.
That said, if you’re concerned about a young’un stumbling upon something they shouldn’t, it’s always a good idea to do a quick shuffle through the cards. We can’t guarantee Grandma won’t turn beet red during gameplay, but at least the kids will be safe! 🐔
